Individual Review - Glenmorangie Madeira Cask

Individual Review - Glenmorangie Madeira Cask

Foti's Review

Glenmorangie Madeira Wood Finish - 43% ABV

12 years age statement, these older bottlings are usually 10 years in ex-bourbon and then finished for two years in the specific wood cask, in this case, Maderia.  Madeira is a fortified wine from Portugal

Color - Honey

Tasted neat in a Glencairn

Nose - Chocolate, chocolate orange, malt, some sort of semi-sweet fruit that I can’t really place…Dried fruit! That’s it, dried apricots. It’s a pretty nice nose, tiny little bit of funk can be teased out beyond that sweetness. Revisiting the nose, I get that Madeira influence.
Palate - Some of that malty and chocolate sweetness, a small hit of spice, orange/citrus notes come through a little. It’s a bit boring if I may say so, the nose outperforms the palate on this one. It’s….OK, just OK.
Finish - Short.  I added water, softened it up even more and added a caramel note.
This was procured at auction, I can’t remember what I paid but I bet I overpaid. Oh well, that’s part of the game and what keeps these experiences fun.
Rating - Don’t recommend, too many other good options and these are not easily found. Mayyyyybe I’d say get a dram because of that factor that it’s not available anymore but don’t expect much out of this one. 70/100
